Cub Scouts

Packs inception year is Sept. 2010.

12 Cub Scouts were recruited from the 4 Elementary schools. Two adult leaders were recruited from the parents of the founding Cub Scouts. There were four Dens assembled from the first 12 youth. One adult volunteer took the Webelos Den and the other took the Wolf Den as they had a child in each of those Dens. Susie Williams has led the Tiger Den and also Chairs the Advancement Committee.

The BSA Chartering Organization was formed from the Presbyterian Men that was in existence at the church for many years prior to the founding of Pack 221. The Men’s group supports the Pack with financial, logistics and leadership. Tom Fisher is the Charter Organization Representative; Ernie Potter is Secretary, Russ Rankin is Treasurer, Jeff Stevens remains as the Pack Committee Chair and Chuck Williams continues as Assistant Cubmaster since Melissa Hannah has been made the Cubmaster. Greg Hord is the Bear Den Leader and we suffer for a Wolf Den Leader. All the adults have been certified through hours of online training and classes in Youth Protection, This is Scouting, & 'Position Specific' training. Many thanks to the leaders for sharing their valuable time to provide such an important service to the youth in our community. Much more has been given but a short report does not allow the complete list.

The Dens have had at least two meetings per month since inception and one Pack meeting for awards and recognition each and every month except July and August of 2011. 12 boys have reached the rank of Bobcat within the first 60 days of inception. All earned at least one more rank advancement before the Blue & Gold Banquet that was held in February. The Pack has participated in 6 outdoor activities during the year. Some of the activities were the Cub-O-Ree, Bicycle Rally, and Day/Resident Camp.

There are more then four Service Projects recorded by Pack 221 that provided services of various sorts to Care Net, The Chartering Organization, and to the local community.

There has been a second opportunity to recruit from the Elementary schools this fall which increased the Pack number to 22. All of the new boys and the original Scouts have earned the Founders Award which means they have been part of starting a New Cub Scout Pack. That opportunity is terminated after the first year of inception.

Financial support for the pack has mainly been from the Pres. Men and a $500 donation from Franklin Rotary Club. A Fund raiser is planned for the First Sunday Lunch in March at the Church. Unfortuantely, little has been made from popcorn sales.
