Service and Missions at FPC

(Bill Bastl, Chair)

Guatemala Church Partnership

Our church has a partnership with the Camino A Canaan Presbyterian Church in San Vicente Pacaya , Guatemala. We seek to learn from each other through correspondence, exchanging pictures and small gifts, and, as the money is available, visits to each other.

Five Cents a Meal

Special cans are available on a table in the coffee fellowship area for the collection of Five Cents a Meal. Every family is encouraged to take home a collection can and put five cents per person per meal into this can; and then bring it to church with you on a first Sunday of the month to be exchanged for an empty one. The cans are dedicated with the morning offering. The money collected is used for hunger relief locally and worldwide.

Second Sunday Food Collection

On the first Sunday of each month, you will find in the bulletin a list of foods needed by two local hunger fighting organizations, CARE NET and a Hispanic ministry. You are asked to bring one or more of these food items with you to donate to our Second Sunday food collection. Cardboard boxes are in the vestibule and coffee fellowship area in which to place your food donations.

Fair Trade Coffee, Tea and Cocoa

One of the simple ways that you can help poor farmers in impoverished countries is to buy the Fair Trade coffee, tea and cocoa that is available for purchase on the first Sunday of each month in the coffee fellowship area. Ordinarily, thrid world coffee farmers make little money due to a "middle man" who pockets most of the profits. The quality Fair Trade coffee, tea and cocoa we are selling is from Central American cooperatives who get much more of the profits. If you run low in the middle of the month, you may also obtain these items from a volunteer in the church office.

Heifer Project Quarter Collection Tubes

Save your quarters, and put them in the Heifer Project Quarter Collection Tubes each Sunday morning to help us send milk goats to needy people throughout the world. You will find a tube in the coffee fellowship area and the vestibule. When the tubes have $120 in them, we send the money to Heifer Project. They send a milk goat, or herd of goats, to a poor village much in need of the healthy milk the goats provide.
